Two Bears who?
Two Bears Remodeling LLC moved to Fort Bragg in 2016 after operating a successful remodeling business in Boston. Complicated projects were the norm in Boston. Most of the homes we renovated in Boston were built between 1880 and 1940. Not only were these houses old, but countless tradesmen, skilled and unskilled, reshaped these homes in ways large and small. Remodeling in this context required liberal doses of critical thinking, aesthetic inventiveness and heavy labor to achieve beautiful results.
Two Bears Remodeling specializes in small and medium-sized projects, such as kitchens, bathrooms, decks and small additions. We like to see nicely done work as much as you do. We show up on time, return your phone calls, and provide detailed estimates so you know exactly what you are paying us to do. We plan carefully to minimize delays and prefer to do one project at a time, from start to finish. If we are efficient with your project, we minimize the disruption in your home, and our business runs more smoothly.
We look forward to working with you!

Does Two Bears Remodeling do small remodeling jobs?
Yes, Two Bears Remodeling does small and medium sized projects. You do not have to sacrifice craftsmanship or professionalism when hiring a contractor for small projects. Many small projects have unique needs in terms of design and construction, and to make the result a seamless part of your home, personal attention and creative problem solving are essential. Do you need an eight-foot tall arched storm door for an 1880s home, a custom closet with an oddly sloped ceiling, an unusual deck shape, or built-ins for small home? Two Bears Remodeling invites and enjoys this kind of project. We recognize that small changes can significantly impact the aesthetics, comfort and value of your home, and bring an unused, underutilized or unappreciated space into the mainstream of your home's activity. Your small project is a priority.
Should I build an addition?
Before plunging into building an addition onto your house, you might consider some alternatives. In many cases, our homes are large enough, but the space is inefficiently laid out, lacks sufficient storage space or is arranged in a way that doesn't serve the needs of your household. Consider moving or removing walls, doors or hallways. By doing so, you can create a more open and interactive space or, conversely, create a quiet alcove. Adding windows and removing a wall may let light into the home's interior. Reconfiguring the wall near your front door can create a welcoming entrance for guests to your home. Consider adding or enlarging windows, raising a room's ceiling or enclosing an existing porch. Lastly, colors, material choices and their arrangement can affect the perceived size of a room.
That said, there are plenty of reasons to add an addition, including a growing family or a truly claustrophobic house. If you decide to build an addition, then Two Bears Remodeling will be happy to look at your project.
How long does it take to remodel a kitchen or bathroom?
The short answer is a gut remodel of a kitchen usually takes 4 - 8 weeks, and a bathroom usually requires 3 - 6 weeks. The time required depends heavily on the extent of the remodel, the need for structural work and the complexity of the finished space.
We recognize that you have only one kitchen, and many homes have only one bathroom. In addition, these rooms are usually in high traffic areas. Consequently, Two Bears Remodeling strives to maximize efficiency on these projects. We work with you to select all the materials for the project and have them on site before the start of the project. We scrutinize the project closely to minimize the number of surprises during the remodel. We will be there every day and will focus only on your project from demo day until completion.
Given how rarely these rooms are remodeled, we prefer to do gut remodels of kitchens and bathrooms. This allows us to flatten, level and strengthen walls, floors and ceilings. We can bring electrical and plumbing up to code, and place fixtures and outlets exactly where you need them. We can also properly insulate walls. All of these updates, while hidden, eliminate awkward aesthetic details and maximize the functionality of the finished room.
Do you do time and materials jobs?
Our preference is to provide you a quote for the entire project, and we prefer to provide the materials as well. In most cases, our customers also prefer this method, because they will know the price of the whole project before it starts, and if there is a problem with the materials, then it's the responsibility of Two Bears Remodeling to correct the problem.
That said, for small handyman projects, this might be the best method. In those cases, we charge a minimum of 2 hours of labor. Labor also includes the time to drive to project location, and drive time to/from suppliers to pick up materials for the project.
Do you provide written estimates?
Yes, this is our preferred method for providing an estimate. "Ballpark" quotes are notoriously inaccurate. Our written estimates are very thorough, allowing you to understand the exact materials and process of the project. For example, an estimate for a bathroom remodel might be 3-4 pages of bullet points describing the scope of work. An estimate for a kitchen might be 6-8 pages. This detail helps us produce a more accurate estimate, sets clear expectations and minimizes the chance for miscommunication as the project proceeds.
